Using Acrobat DC or Acrobat Reader DC, convert a PDF to a Word document
Acrobat DC and Acrobat Reader DC, both from Adobe, make it simple to convert PDF files to Word documents. The bad news is that it isn’t without cost.
Acrobat DC is available in two versions: a basic version (Windows only) for $12.99 per month and a pro version (Windows and Mac) for $14.99 per month. Both of these things necessitate a yearly commitment. If you only need to convert a PDF to Word format once in a while, this is probably overkill. However, if you already have Acrobat DC, you should convert your PDFs with it.
Acrobat Reader DC, on the other hand, is free to download, but you’ll have to pay $1.99 a month to convert PDFs to other formats like Word. If you need to convert PDFs to Word documents on a regular basis, the charge is probably worth it because Acrobat is the most reliable way to do so, as it maintains formatting rather well.
In this example, we’ll use the full version of Acrobat DC to make the conversion. The procedure is nearly identical if you’re using Acrobat Reader DC. You simply won’t be able to convert to as many different formats. Both, however, support Word.
To begin, open the PDF in Acrobat. Click the “Export PDF” command on the right side of the window.
Select “Microsoft Word” from the left-hand menu. Selecting “Word Document” on the right turns the PDF to a contemporary Word document in DOCX format. When you choose “Word 97-2003 Document,” the PDF is converted to the older DOC format.
Click the “Export” button once you’ve chosen your decision.
Choose where you want to save your new Word document on the next screen.
After giving the document a name, click the “Save” button.
Now that your PDF has been saved as a Word document, open it in Word and start editing.
Using Microsoft Word, convert a PDF to a Word Document
You can also use Microsoft Word to convert your PDF to a Word document. Converting with Word isn’t usually the most dependable option because it frequently results in style and formatting errors. It is, nevertheless, adequate for simple papers or when you simply need to get information into an editable format.
On the Word ribbon, select “File.”
Click the “Open” button in the sidebar that appears.
Navigate to your PDF’s location on the Open page (This PC, OneDrive, whatever).
After you’ve found and selected your PDF, click the “Open” button.
A message appears, informing you that your new document may lose part of the formatting it had as a PDF. Don’t be concerned. Your original PDF will be unaffected; this is just a heads-up that the new Word document you’re making from it might not be identical. Select “OK” from the drop-down menu.
Word converts the PDF and immediately opens your new Word document.
Using Google Docs, convert a PDF to a Word Document
Another secure and dependable option to convert your PDF to a Word document is to use Google Docs. It’s a two-step process in which you first convert the file to a Google Docs document and then to a Word document, so you’ll likely lose some formatting. You’re better off just doing it in Word if you have Word. However, if you don’t have Word and need to convert a PDF to a Word document to give to someone else, this method may be handy.
Click the “New” button on your Google Drive after opening it.
Select “File Upload” from the drop-down menu.
Click the “Open” button when you’ve found your PDF file.
Your new file has now been added to your Google Drive account.
Then, on Google Drive, right-click your file, go to the “Open With” menu, and select “Google Docs.”
Your document has now been saved as a Google Doc.
Now select “File” from the menu.
Select the “Word Document (.docx)” option from the “Download As” menu.
Your Google Docs file will be converted to Word format and saved as a Word document on your local PC.
