The multiverse will undoubtedly play a role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and fans are eager to see the villains from the other franchise take on Holland’s webhead in what will undoubtedly be one of the greatest Spidey films ever made. Pre-sale tickets are already flying off the shelves, and excitement for the entire event on December 17, 2021, is at an all-time high.
Fans can’t wait to witness Marvel Cinematic Universe Peter Parker return to action and how his world has been flipped upside down since his secret identity was revealed in the film Far From Home.
So far, the stage has been brilliantly set for an epic confrontation between Spider-Man and villains from other series who have made their way to that universe as a result of Doctor Strange’s botched spell that fragmented the multiverse.
The villains that played Andrew Garfield’s version of Spider-Man, Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Rhys Ifans’ The Lizard, will be in the mix. Furthermore, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Thomas Haden Church’s The Sandman, and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin will return to the big screen for the first time since Tobey Maguire played the friendly neighborhood wallcrawler.
What is the official runtime of Spider-Man: No Way Home?
According to reliable sources, Spider-Man: No Way Home has a final run duration of 150 minutes. That’s two and a half hours and thirty minutes of Spider-Man action, not including the credits.
To contrast: The first MCU standalone Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, lasted 133 minutes, or two hours and 13 minutes. Spider-Man: Far From Home, the second installment in the trilogy, lasted 129 minutes, or two hours and nine minutes. No Way Home is definitely longer than both of previous films (albeit not as lengthy as Marvel’s most recent Eternals, which clocks in at 157 minutes), indicating the enlarged amount of story (and characters? and multi-verse madness?) that the third film will throw at us.

As previously revealed by Holland, the film would have “There are some pretty vicious battle scenes in this picture. And it’s a different combat style that we’ve seen previously.” Spending so much time in a film world that is more purposefully somber than the previously lighthearted Homecoming is a dramatic choice — one that we should’ve seen coming after the wild cliffhanger finale of Far From Home.

No Way Home will take place after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. The previous film ended with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealing Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) identity to the public after his (presumed) death. In No Way Home, Peter struggles with this and seeks out Doctor Strange to cast a spell that will make everyone forget. This goes wrong, bringing in multiverse villains.
There are also reports that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their Spider-Man roles from their respective film franchises. Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, is also expected to appear, making this film a massive confluence of past Marvel franchises. Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Marisa Tomei all appear in the film.

Given how intricate No Way Home is growing up to be, it makes natural that the film will be so long. Many new (to the Marvel Cinematic Universe) characters will be introduced, transforming the film into a massive event akin to an Avengers feature. Because of the legacy characters, there is a lot of anticipation for the film, so the creative team will want to deliver.
Furthermore, as the conclusion of the first Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man trilogy, the film must tie up any loose ends left by the prior episodes. While Peter Parker will feature in additional Marvel Cinematic Universe films in the future, the storyline that has been constructed from the past two films and his character will not be repeated.
